After a long journey, we found ourselves in a place where time slows, hearts soften, and fairy tales breathe.
Day 34 (Day 4 of our holiday) saw us say goodbye to Maastricht (but not for too long, we WILL be back), and Guten Abend to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. We made it. Christmas Town! Driving in to Rothenburg ob der Tauber is like driving into a Disney movie, or a fairytale. In the first few moments I was captured by the buildings and architecture (and yeah we passed the Monkey Island part of the town), then I was fascinated by a Hummingbird Moth, then the house we were staying in. I loved the house, I loved meeting Otto from the Burg Hotel (he is one funny dude!), and I loved the view from the house we were staying in. We picked rooms, got sorted, and went out to eat at Reichsküchenmeister – Das Herz von Rothenburg (Reichsküchenmeister – The heart of Rothenburg). The staff were great, the food (You have GOT to try Potato Dumplings) and drink was amazing (I really like the “Stupfl” whisky. Man that was good!!) Then we went home and settled down with a couple of drinks in the garden. Another beautiful view of a church (St. Jakobskirche) from our bedroom saw us bed down for the night after an amazing day in a quiet, tranquil fairytale. This place was absolutely worth the long drive.
